IBC Musings: Tom Favell, Hi Tec Systems
Hi Tec Systems
Hi Tech Systems' Tom Favell has probably attended more IBC's than you have
Name: Tom Favell
Job Title: Managing Director
Company: Hi Tech Systems
Number of IBCs you¹ve attended: 30+
Flying, driving or train-ing to IBC this year? Taxi - 'plane - taxi
What is your goal for this year¹s IBC show?
To engage with as many of the inevitably 'record numbers' of visitors to the show as possible with the objective of, obviously, selling them something. In reality if we can have a meaningful conversation with a relatively small number of properly interested people, that would be good. IBC is also a great opportunity to get a sense of where it's all going, and where we should be (IP?) - or even shouldn't be (remember 3D) - so gathering as much feedback from visitors and exhibitors is very useful and important.
What will be the big tech trends at this year¹s IBC?
Clearly IP, 4K and HDR will be on every corner - it'll be interesting to get a sense of the reality of 4K in a 'broadcast' environment - is this another potential turkey like 3D? 1080P with HDR is so much more attractive as the image quality is stunning and would use the existing HD transmission infrastructure.
What piece of gear/software/platform do you wish someone would make?
A cost effective, easy to use, expandable and flexible production control system for video servers and ancillary equipment. Hang on. That's what we make.
What¹s your fondest IBC/Amsterdam memory?
Watching the world go by from a sunny seat outside a bar near a canal after a long day at the show.
Can you speak Dutch?
