IBC Musings: Micky Edwards, Amagi
Micky Edwards of Amagi think machine learning will be a hot topic at this year's IBC.
Name: Micky Edwards
Company: Amagi Media Corp
Job Title: Head of sales, EMEA
Number of IBCs you’ve attended: All IBCs since the 1990s
Flying, driving or train-ing to IBC this year?
I’m both driving and flying to IBC this year. It’s a skip and hop from London Stansted Airport to Schiphol Airport. In the past, it has taken longer to taxi around the airport to the arrivals terminal than the actual flight takes.
What is your goal for this year’s IBC show?
To meet new and existing clients, and to show how Amagi is the world’s leading disruptive service supplier to the broadcast and media industry.
What will be the big tech trends at this year’s IBC?
Machine learning tech tools - how they can transform businesses by reducing the cost and complexity of a plethora of manual tasks.
What piece of gear/software/platform do you wish someone would make?
A transporter — a la Star Trek — to get from point A to point B in an instant. It would save on all those long-haul flights, jet lag etc.
What’s your fondest IBC/Amsterdam memory?
- Seeing a guy dressed in a black leather mankini roller skating across Lietserplien while waiting for a tram
- Turning up for a BBC dinner dressed as the Netherlands national mascot, a bright orange lion
- Falling asleep on a pool table at the Exhibition Freighting pool tournament (long while ago)
- Staying next to the Carré Theater with a great bunch of Canadians and drinking the bar dry one evening
Other than that, nothing really.
Can you speak Dutch?
Only a few basic words, badly. "Dank a velt!"
