Sony announces new HD NXCAM with 60p and video light
Sony is also releasing a new remote commander and a switcher aimed at corporate production and live events
Sony has announced its newest NXCAM camcorder the HXR-NX5R, which will replace its NX5 and NX3 cameras. The camera features three 1/2.8-type Full HD Exmor CMOS sensors and a 40x Clear Image Zoom.
Further upgrades from the NX3 and NX5 models include a 3G-SDI terminal that supports Full HD 60p output and what Sony is claiming is the industry’s first adjustable brightness LED video light. The camera also employs a digital signal processor (DSP) and advanced noise reduction to enhance image quality. A direct menu function and a joystick have also been added and an OLED viewfinder.
The HXR-NX5R has built in Wi-Fi and simultaneous backup recording through dual SD card slots. A choice of advanced XAVC S 50Mbps or established AVCHD / DV recording formats is available. The camera's Multi-Interface Shoe supports a UWP-D series wireless microphone receiver without cables and a battery.
The HXR-NX5R is planned to be available in September 2016 and will be on show next month at IBC2016 in Amsterdam.
Sony has also announced the release of its new compact multi function remote commander. The RM-30BP is the successor to the RM-1000BP multifunctional remote commander. The lightweight RM-30BP can control most camera functions including, lens control, camera recording, playback and multi-camera control (up to three cameras).
The new remote can also be connected to Sony's new MCX-500 switcher system for multi camera control directly from the switcher, and is compatible with the new HXR-NX5R and PXW-FS7 v4.0, with plans to introduce compatibility for other Sony camcorders.
The RM-30BP remote commander is planned to be available in the October of 2016.
The new MCX-500 is an all-in-one switcher system aimed at live events or corporate productions, and designed to work alongside the NX5R and the RM-30BP for multi-camera operation. The MCX-500 sends PGM/PVW tally signals to each HXR-NX5R allowing the operator to know which camera has been selected for live.
“We’re excited to announce this latest addition to our NXCAM range, broadening our offering of compact, cost effective camcorders that deliver Full HD rich imagery ideal for event videography,” said Akihiro Yamaji, Product Marketing, Manager, Sony Professional Europe. “This upgrade, the new switcher and new commander, further highlights our commitment to driving technology advancements throughout our whole portfolio, providing the best possible options for content creators who need shooting flexibility and high quality imagery when capturing corporate productions or live events.”
The MCX-500 is planned to be available in the January of 2017.
